DEPUTY CHIEF METRO POLICE: OPERATIONS

(METRO POLICE SERVICES)

POSITION CODE: 170002

TASK Grade 17 (R609 852 – R847 872 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)

 Requirements: 

All requirements applicable to being appointed as a Police member ito Regulation 11 of the South African Police Amendment Act, shall apply to this position, i.e.

 

  • Matric or equivalent NQF 4 qualification PLUS NQF 6 qualification: Institute of Traffic Officers (ITO) 3 or National Diploma in Municipal Policing or National Diploma in Traffic Safety Management or equivalent policing qualification. Please note: The prescribed municipal police qualification must have been successfully completed at an accredited municipal police training facility.
  • At least ten years’ management experience in policing/traffic policing.
  • Must be registered as a Traffic Officer in terms of the Road Traffic Act.
  • Must have permanent residence in the Republic of South Africa and have no criminal conviction.
  • The completion of competencies as per the National Treasury Competencies is recommended.
  • Valid Code B drivers’ licence.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be proficient in English. 

Competencies:

·         Knowledge of relevant national legislation and Council’s policies (Firearms Control Act, Police Amendment Act, etc.).

·         Planning, organising and management skills.

·         Effective communication, report writing and presentation skills.

·         Project management, facilitation and team building skills.

·         Experience in financial management and budgetary control.

·         Must be physically fit and able bodied.  

Job purpose: 

·        Leading, managing and co-ordinating central operations within the City with regard to the provision of: traffic law enforcement, by-law enforcement, crime prevention, tactical service and social crime prevention to drive service delivery through the development of applicable strategies, plans and policies. 

Please note: The successful candidate will be required to perform 24 hour standby duties.
