VACANCY

SAFETY AND SECURITY DIRECTORATE

SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT METRO POLICE: OPERATIONS (TWO POSITIONS)

(METRO POLICE)

POSITION CODE:  7356

TASK Grade 15 (R481 212 – R669 048 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits) 

Requirements: 

  • Matric or equivalent NQF 4 qualification.
  • Must have an NQF 6 qualification, ITO 3 or National Diploma in Municipal Policing or National Diploma in Traffic Safety Management or equivalent Policing qualification.
  • Must have successfully completed the prescribed Municipal Police qualification at an accredited Municipal Police Training facility.
  • Must be a registered Traffic Officer in terms of the National Road Traffic Act.
  • Must have permanent residence in the Republic of South Africa.
  • Must be proficient in English.
  • Valid Code B driver’s license.
  • No criminal conviction.
  • Must have five years’ supervisory experience with at least three years on a managerial level. 

Competencies: 

  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit.
  • Must be able-bodied. 

Special Conditions: 

  • Exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Must be available to perform duties after hours. 

Job purpose: 

 

  • To manage and coordinate all functions within one geographical area within the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality with regards to the provision of traffic enforcement, by-law enforcement, crime prevention and to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery through the implementation of applicable strategies, plans and policies.
  • Planning, coordinating and monitors sequences associated with the implementation of statutory laws and By-laws related to public safety in order to ensure any contravention of the laws and by-laws are appropriately dealt with contributing to safer community.
  • To deliver on all specialised municipal police functions assigned to the specialist units of the MPD, inclusive of Training and Development, CCTV monitoring and radio control, civilian and internal affairs as well as specialised operations (e.g. dog unit, equestrian unit, TRU, CRU and substance abuse) to ensure an effective response to internal and external delivery demands attached to these units.
  • Implement procedures, systems and controls to regulate special work and related applications associated with the function in order to ensure unsafe conditions and/or hazards are identified and rectified minimising the threat of injury to persons and/or damage to property.


As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
