VACANCY

ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY DIRECTORATE 

DEPUTY DIRECTOR: TRANSMISSION

(PROJECTS)

POSITION CODE: 7095

TASK Grade 16 (R504 600 – R701 532 per annum)

(Basic salary only, excluding benefits) 

In compliance with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Employment Equity Plan, preference will be given to suitably qualified African (male/female), Coloured (male/female), White (female) and Indian (female) applicants. 

Requirements: 

  • B. degree (Electrical Engineering).
  • Must be registered as a Candidate Professional Engineering Technologist (ECSA).
  • Four to five years’ relevant experience.
  • Valid code B driver’s licence. 

Competencies:

 

  • Must be physically fit and healthy.
  • Must be able to perform manual operations and duties on foot. Need to climb steel lattice structures of 12m when commissioning certain projects, walk long distances through virgin bushveld to find suitable powerline routes and carry out inspections during the construction stages of projects.
  • Have the ability to cope with mental stress associated with the taking of risky decisions when negotiating large contracts; making mistakes with the verification of complex technical designs and drawings can be costly and result in delays in contracts and completion of projects, stress arising from conflict facilitation and reaching compromises where more than one technical division are involved in the implementation stage of a project and different opinions are maintained about overlapping responsibilities. This stress is a constant part of the job.
  • Must be able to meet frequent and conflicting deadlines and interruptions in the job associated with project implementation and management e.g. contractual conditions normally stipulate that if drawings submitted by contractor for approval are not checked within a prescribed time limit, such drawings are deemed approved. Overtime is often worked to meet the deadlines.
  • Sight, speech and hearing ability. (Colour vision is required and required to visually inspect equipment and verify small ferrule numbering on wiring circuits.)
  • Must work in environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as varying temperatures and weather conditions and working in high risk residential areas poses potential physical threat. 

Job purpose: 

 

Managing and supervising the Transmission Division and relate capital projects and ensuring timeous completion in accordance with budgetary provisions, safety and quality standards.

As part of the selection process, candidates may be  tested  on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
