NATURE CONSERVATION LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER (TWO POSITIONS)

NATURE CONSERVATION LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER (TWO POSITIONS)

(ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT)

(THREE-YEAR CONTRACTUAL POSITION)

POSITION CODE: 7002

TASK Grade 7 (R173 784 – R241 608 per annum)

 

In compliance with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Employment Equity Plan, preference will be given to suitably qualified African/Coloured/White/Indian (male/female) applicants. 

Requirements: 

  • Minimum academic qualification: Grade 12 (Matric).
  • A valid Code 08 driver’s licence.
  • Ability to swim (a prerequisite).
  • Peace Officer’s Certificate (highly recommended).
  • Skipper’s Ticket Category E (highly recommended).
  • Experience in a military or law enforcement environment (highly recommended).
  • A recent SAPS (Police) Clearance Certificate (a prerequisite). 

Competencies: 

  • Ability to work as part of a team and foster good public relations.
  • Ability to communicate well in both English and Afrikaans.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to work outside normal office hours. 

Job purpose: 

  • Enforcing marine living resources legislation.
  • Enforcing municipal by-laws.
  • Implementing and enforcing environmental legislation and local by-laws.
  • Assisting coastal law enforcement agencies, as and when required.
  • Compiling reports.
  • Conducting foot and boat patrols of coast and coastline.
  • Recovery diving, as and when required.
  • Physical activities related to Coastal Nature Reserve management.

 As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
